The area around Lima’s beaches is prime surf territory, with approximately 155 miles of Pacific beaches stretching south of the city.

For those who have never before stood on a board, the calmer conditions of Miraflores’ beaches, including Waikiki and Makaha, are choice spots. What’s more, with good surf schools, such as Pukana and Olas Peru, located around here, a little help is never far away.

For more confident wave riders, the left-breaking swells of La Herradura, will provide a challenge. Experienced riders will also enjoy Cerro Azul and Punta Rocas. Further south at Punta Hermosa – the birthplace of world champion surfer Sofía Mulánovich – Pico Alto beach has 12-footers that will keep even experts on their toes. If you don’t think you’re ready to tackle those, bring your board to Cabelleros beach instead, where tubular waves average around three to six feet.
