DAY 1: Arrive at your hotel in Lima after your international flight to Peru!
Lima is a metropolitan city known for its colonial architecture and mouthwatering ceviche!
When your international flight arrives in Lima, look for your Kuoda host holding a sign with your name on it! We know you’ll most likely be a little tired after your long flight, so we’ll save you the stress of trying to navigate and bring you straight to your hotel adjacent to the airport where you can shake off that icky flight feeling with a shower and a sleep. Relax into the evening and enjoy a good night’s rest before your flight to Cusco in the morning!
Day 2: Fly to Cusco and enjoy visits to the Cochahuasi Rescue Center and Awanakancha Living Musem
The Sacred Valley, lower in altitude than Cusco, offers gorgeous landscapes and a serene atmosphere.
After a restful night spent catching up on sleep and a complimentary buffet breakfast in the hotel, we’ll bring your family directly to the airport for the morning flight to Cusco. It’s just a short trip, and the kids will be kept entertained by the dizzying views of the Andes out the plane window.
Upon touch down in Cusco, we’ll bring you out for a tasty lunch, before taking you to the Sacred Valley, where the lower altitudes make it easier to acclimatize. On the way out there, we’ll break up the 45-minute journey. Our first stop is the Cochahuasi Rescue Center, a family-run private organization dedicated to rescuing and looking after animals from mistreatment from previous owners, illegal hunters, and poachers. You will have the opportunity to see a variety of animals from vicunas, llama, and alpaca to Andean Condor and perhaps a puma, and at the same time, your children will learn the important asset to contribute to the conservation of wildlife, local species, and biodiversity.
Our last stop is at the Awanakancha Living Museum. Youngsters will love watching the masterly weavers here at work and petting the cute and cuddly llamas and alpacas.
Before long, you’ll be out in the pastoral valley among tranquil Peruvian countryside. Here, cows and sheep seem to outnumber people and the dramatic, jagged silhouette of the Andes frames the picture. We’ll drop you off at your hotel for the evening.
Remember, your Peru family trip is private and customizable, which means you’ll have a Kuoda guide and driver at your disposal. So if you want to stop for a family photo or just to give the kids some time to breathe in the fresh air, just say the word.
Day 3: Kayak on the calm waters of Lake Piuray and make Peruvian-inspired ceramics
Lake Piuray in Chincheros, Peru is surrounded by the snowy peaks of many prominent Peruvian glaciers
Today you’ll continue your family tour to Peru with some adventures and arts. After breakfast this morning, you will be heading to the shores of Lake Piuray and get a safety briefing and instructions on kayaking. Climb aboard your kayak and paddle through tranquil aquamarine waters while keeping an eye out for local flora and fauna.
Return to dry land and enjoy a delicious picnic lunch.
At Kuoda, we know that children don’t just like to look, but to touch as well, which is why we arrange for interactive, hands-on activities as part of our Peru family tours. In the afternoon, you’ll take part in a pottery workshop in the town of Urubamba, where you will learn about the ceramics traditions of Peru and make your own ceramic piece.
Day 4: Enjoy a morning train through the cloud forest and visit the Machu Picchu Citadel!
Machu Picchu will take your breath away with its enigmatic and historical atmosphere.
Today, you and your family will conquer that most famous of New World Wonders: Machu Picchu. You’ll ride the train from Ollantaytambo, watching the cloud forest flit by the large windows, before switching to a bus for the second leg of the trip. Upon arrival, settle in for lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge, which offers striking vistas of the surrounding mountains.
Your luxury tour of Machu Picchu continues after lunch as you and your family enter the site. No matter how many pictures or videos you’ve studied, seeing the astonishing Inca stone constructions in person still somehow manages to have an almost visceral impact, surpassing all expectations. Your well-informed guide will take you on a private tour of the cloud-level citadel, explaining what we know about the history behind this mysterious ancient city.
Return to Aguas Calientes this evening and fall asleep to the sound of the humming cloud forest around you.
Day 5: Hike one of the coveted, limited-entry hikes, Huayna Picchu!
Huayna Picchu, a not to miss experience while exploring Machu Picchu!
Today you have the option to hike two different trails – Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, so it’s completely up to you on how you would like to culminate your Machu Picchu luxury tour. Feeling adventurous? Consider hiking the steep slope of neighboring Huayna Picchu, which offers unrivalled views over Machu Picchu. Please note that only a limited amount of hikers are allowed to climb Huayna Picchu each day and tickets will need to be purchased in advance along with your Machu Picchu entrance.
In the afternoon, reconvene in Aguas Calientes and board the return train to Ollantaytambo. Your Kuoda host will meet you at the station and bring you to your hotel for a well-deserved good night’s rest.
Day 6: Explore the hidden cobblestone streets of historical Cusco on a private city tour!
Tucked into the Andes Mountains, the city of Cusco lies at 11,150ft (3,300m) above sea level!
It’s time to get acquainted with Cusco, a gorgeous city that wins the heart of most every traveler that passes through it. Get to know the real Cusco during a private tour. After breakfast, meet your guide and wander among the archaeological remains of Sacsayhuaman, where the Incas staged a great battle against the conquistadors. Return to the city and roam the atmospheric streets of the bohemian neighborhood of San Blas, which is known for its free-spirited scene. Explore Qoricancha and the Santo Domingo monastery (a colonial structure built on top of the ancient Inca temple of the sun); see where the locals make their grocery runs at the open-air San Pedro market and pass the famous 12-angled stone, whose image appears on the bottle of the local Cusqueña beer.
At the end of the tour, your guide will suggest places to enjoy a delicious local lunch, but make sure to save some room for the snacks that await you in your chocolate making class this afternoon! First make your way to the Chocolate Museum. Did you know that Peru is the birthplace of chocolate? Here you will learn about its spectacular history and the unique process that chocolate undergoes from plant to plate. Best of all, make your own chocolate truffles to bring home with you!
Day 7: Fly back to the “City of Kings” and experience the”Magical Water Circuit”
The Magical Water Circuit holds the Guinness Book Record for the largest fountain complex in the world!
This morning, we’ll take you to the Cusco airport for your morning flight to Lima, the next destination during your Peru family travel adventure. As you fly through the skies, remember to steal the odd glance out the window to see the snow-dusted Andes give way to coastal desert. Upon arrival in Lima, your Kuoda Lima host will meet you and bring you to your hotel in Lima’s Miraflores district.
In the evening, change into something you don’t mind getting wet as you’ll be heading to Lima’s “Magical Water Circuit.” Set in a city park, this fountain display is a surefire hit for families. Not only are the choreographed light, water, and sound displays a marvel to behold, but many of the fountains are interactive – meaning you might find yourself playing among them and getting surprised by random jets of water!
Day 8: Bid Farewell to Peru
The Peruvian Paso horse is known to have the smoothest gait in the world
This morning, you’ll have some leisure time to sleep in, enjoy your hotel’s facilities, or explore trendy Miraflores – an attractive oceanfront neighborhood, and one of the city’s premier shopping and dining destinations. Later in the morning, we will collect you and bring you to a traditional hacienda in the Lurin area of Lima. You will have an opportunity to explore the grounds and stables while learning about the colonial and Republican periods of Peruvian history. During lunch, get ready for an exciting “Marinera” dance show and equestrian demonstration.
The remainder of the afternoon and evening will be yours to spend as you wish before we take you to the airport for your international flight home. Buen viaje!
