Whale Watching in Peru's Northern Beaches
Attractions & Activities in Peru’s Northern Beaches
For the nature lover, it’s hard to beat the sight of a Humpback Whale acrobatically leaping out of the ocean deep. During the months of August through October, Peru’s northern waters are excellent for whale watching. This is when Humpback Whales enter Peruvian waters to breed and calve.
These enormous marine mammals can reach up to 16 meters (52 feet) in length and weigh more than 36,000 kilograms (79,000 pounds). There’s a good chance you’ll even spot one of the newborns swimming along beside its giant mother, likely its very first swim.
The best whale watching tours leave out of Los Organos beach, which is about a 20 minutes’ drive from Mancora beach in the department of Piura.
