This mysterious collection of geoglyphs, known as the Nazca lines are a pre-Inca archeological site is spread across the desert terrain of southern Peru. Drawn by ancient Nazca people circa A.D. 600, these etchings continue to mystify archaeologists and historians. Why were they made? What is their purpose? What do they mean? Theories about the geoglyphs are wide-ranging and connect them to everything from extraterrestrials to water rituals. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Nazca lines contain etchings that are straight lines and trapezoids while others depict stylized representations of various animals, including a hummingbird, a monkey and a fish. To make the most of your Nazca lines experience, it’s highly recommended to access them via stunning aerial views from a plane.
