One way in which we apply these principles is by incorporating visits to the Santa Rosa de Huacaria community. Two-thirds of this community’s territory lies within the reserve and in recent years, they have been working with the Amazon Conservation Association (ACA). Visitors can sit down for a fresh fish meal with community hosts, practice jungle skills such as archery and learn about medicinal plants from the experts (i.e., the villagers themselves).

Together with the Peruvian organization, Asociación para la Conservación de la Cuenca Amazónica, the ACA has also constructed a canopy walkway at the Wayqecha Cloud Forest Biological Station. This treetop-level footpath allows visitors to walk among the upper reaches of the forest.
