Casa de la Libertad (House of Liberty) provides fascinating insight into Bolivia’s history. It was at this very site where Bolivia’s Declaration of Independence was signed on August 6, 1825 making Bolivia an independent nation.

Originally built in 1621 as part of a Jesuit monastery, the Casa de la Libertad is now one of the country’s most prize monuments. Inside it houses a museum that documents Bolivia’s history and Latin America’s struggle for independence from Spain. Among the most interesting exhibits are the original signed independence declaration and the remains of Juana Azurduy de Padilla, a female military leader and heroine of Bolivia’s fight for independence.

Arrange a trip to this museum as part of your personalized tour of Bolivia to learn about the history and origins of this independent nation.
