Bolivia's Most Beautiful City
Attractions & Activities In Sucre
The residents of Sucre are fiercely proud of their city, and work hard to keep it looking spruce. The whitewashed facades of the historic center positively gleam. So much so, in fact, that Sucre has earned the nickname, the White City, and is commonly acknowledged as the most beautiful city in Bolivia.
The downtown area, replete with gorgeous colonial buildings, is the most attractive and charming neighborhood. Wander around the grid streets and you’ll find reason to pause every few steps, whether to admire a tidy plaza, inspect a statue or to inhale the scent of fresh flowers in one its verdant parks. What’s more, it’s an ideal city for exploring on foot. At an elevation of 9,000 feet, Sucre is at a lower altitude than La Paz, which contributes to its sunny, cool and moderate climate. And there’s a certain buzz about the place too, thanks in no small part to the student population who bring youthful vitality and life to its cafés, bars and cultural events.
One of the best spots to view Sucre in all its glory is from the top of Recoleta Hill. It’s a short yet steep slog to the summit, but the view of the city’s red-tiled rooftops spreading out below and the mountains beyond them is excellent.
A trip to Bolivia’s most beautiful city, Sucre, is an essential part of any private tour to Bolivia.
