Canopy Walks

Attractions & Activities In Tambopata National Reserve

The rainforest canopy is a world of its own – utterly distinct and almost invisible from the forest floor. Shaking branches and flashes of fur and feather hint at the sheer number of creatures hanging around the jungle’s ceiling, but to see them properly, you have to get up there.

At the Tambopata National Reserve, you can do just that at the tree-top walkway at Inkaterra.

Walk the gradually ascending path and observe first-hand how the habitats change as you climb upward – a concept known as vertical stratification. The sky-high walkway stretches across 1,000 feet and reaches up to 103 feet. There are six observation platforms and two 95-foot-tall towers, which put you at eye-level with the canopy’s inhabitants, many of whom rarely descend to the gloomy ground level. Study the flora and fauna up-close and, if you’re feeling brave, cast your eyes down to the faraway forest floor, where you can see the Madre de Dios River snaking through the landscape below.
