4 and 5 Day Trekking Options
Attractions & Activities in Choquequirao
There’s a reason only a dozen travelers visit Choquequirao each day and it’s not because this ancient Inca citadel isn’t worth seeing. What keeps travelers from wandering to this ridge top ruin on their southern Peru vacation is its remote location in the Vilcabamba Mountains and the challenging four- to five-day trek that a visit to Choquequirao requires.
The 4-Day Choquequirao Trek
The four-day trek is a great option for travelers looking to keep the Choquequirao Trek as compact as possible. The journey to Choquequirao is at its most efficient a four-day there-and-back trek, two days trek there and two days trek back. This option allows you about three hours to explore Choquequirao before heading back down the trail you’ve come, plenty of time to take in the views and explore the ruins on a private guided tour.
The 5-Day Choquequirao Trek
The five-day trek follows the same switch-backing canyon and jungle trails as the four-day trek but allows you two visits to the Inca citadel as you’ll be camping right by the ruins. Explore the complex before nightfall and do it all over again the next morning before setting off on your return journey.
Whichever trekking option you choose, the experience will be nothing short of amazing. Where else can you enjoy an ancient Inca ruin without the throngs of tourists to crowd the experience?
