Petroglyphs of Toro Muerto

In the high desert of the Castilla Province near Arequipa are an ensemble of rock carvings that are among the oldest on the planet. More than 5,000 images – depicting everything from animals and human figures to abstract geometric shapes – are etched into volcanic boulders amid this dusty desert landscape.

The mysterious drawings date back to between 1,300 and 500 B.C., and were created by the ancient Wari people.
