With icy glaciers, stunning mountain views, petrified forests, lovely lakes, and the end of the world, the Argentine side of Patagonia has something to astonish everyone.
Home to Glacier National Park (Parque Nacional los Glaciares), one of the most impressive attractions for this region is its enormous glaciers. The main attraction for Glacier National Park is likely the glacier named Perito Moreno, which you can visit by boat, or by hiking along a trail from the visitor center. From the boat or viewing platforms, you can really feel just how vast this glacier is – 60 meters, or about 200 feet high. And if you wait long enough, you may get to see a huge chunk of ice fall crashing into the water below.
For those feeling a bit more adventurous, you can also hike along one of the glaciers. These hikes are incredibly challenging, and require appropriate gear, clothes, and footwear. For those up for the challenge, however, this is absolutely a worthwhile and unique experience, being able to walk across a moving glacier.
Another attraction in Patagonia is the impressive Mount Fitz Roy, which is home to a multitude of trekking and hiking routes. The views from the top are stunning, as on clear days you can see for miles and miles. Because of the altitude, it’s cold and wintery all year round, and so you will want to be prepared for cold weather.
And if you want to go as far south as possible without visiting Antarctica, Ushuaia is the place for you! Located in the Tierra del Fuego area, which is the sounthernmost province of Argentina, Ushuaia is commonly known as the southernmost city in the world. Here you can experience incredible nature, including unique waterways, mountains, and also visit the Tierra del Fuego National Park, with its many well-worn paths to explore.
