Hopefully, you have enjoyed wandering the exhibits of museums in Peru and Ecuador, we will look next at some of what Colombia and Brazil have to offer!

Colombia

Colombia

Museo Botero

One of the most famous Colombian artists is Fernando Botero, known for his signature style in his paintings, drawings, and sculptures. This includes the sensuality and creativity of his works, as well as the fact that most of his subjects are larger-than-life, round and wonderful. The Botero Museum consists of what was once Fernando Botero’s personal collection, including 123 of his own original works, as well as 85 incredible works, showcasing different artists from around the world. You will find the likes of Renoir, Dali, Monet, and more as you virtually explore the exhibits in this incredible historic house and art museum!

Museo del Oro

The Museo del Oro, or Gold Museum, is owned by the Banco de la Republica in Bogotá, Colombia. This museum showcases the most extensive collection of pre-Hispanic goldwork in the world! Along with pottery, shell, stone, textiles, and other archaeological artifacts, viewing these works allows you to take a trip to the past in Colombia before they even knew who the Spanish were.

Bogota Street Art

Bogota Street Art is a collective formed in 2009 by four of the most renowned urban artists in Colombia’s capital to bring worldwide attention to Bogota’s incredible street art. Here you can take a walk through the streets of Bogota and appreciate the incredible talent and skill these artists have, using brick walls as their canvas.

Brazil

Museu Nacional

This museum, located in the Rio de Janeiro, was the oldest scientific institution in Brazil, and the largest museum of natural history and anthropology in Latin America. Unfortunately, this museum did suffer a major fire in September of 2018, losing approximately 200 years of science and history. However, you can still explore many of its exhibits virtually here.

Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro

This museum was created in 1948 and is an important structure not only for its art but for the architecture of the building itself. MAM Rio contains approximately 15,000 works, including sculptures, paintings, photographs, prints, and more. They also regularly loan collections from other museums, including the Gilberto Chateaubriand and Joaquim Paiva’s collection of photographs.

These are just some examples of incredible museums in Colombia and Brazil that you can visit online while dreaming of your South American vacation. We will share even more of our favorite history and art museums with you on Sunday! Until then, enjoy your virtual visits to Colombia and Brazil!
